April 9 — April 11
Traveling on business, unable to ride.I did have time to walk around the convention center while I was taking a break, and saw a cop scrutinizing a bike chained to a pole near one of the entrances. I don't think he ticketed the bike, but he stood there for so long, I had the chance to take a picture of him and tweet it without him noticing me. What could he have been trying to decide? Is it illegal to park a bike there? And, if so, what could he do about it?

April 14
Trip: Preschool drop-offMiles roundtrip: 7
Cargo: 45-pound child and his backpack
Weather: 55°F, cloudy, showers possible
Comments: I can't tell you how many times over the past few years when I decided not to ride because it was raining, threatening to rain, or had just rained and there were puddles on the street. Or my kid was in a bad mood and didn't feel like riding (whine, whine whine). Today, because of the 30 Days of Biking pledge, because I told myself and the world I would ride every day that I could in April, I put my boots on and got going. I convinced my son to get on the bike despite his runny nose and itchy eyes. And it was actually too warm for my raincoat, and though showers were passing through, we managed to miss them.
